Historical background:

The ship's keel was laid in July 1940, launched in November 1941, and commissioned on June 15, 1942. It was the first ship of the Cleveland class light cruisers built by the United States during World War II, and the only one of the 29 ships of this class to be launched before the Pearl Harbor attack.

Its design is an improvement on the early Brooklyn class light cruisers, enhancing air defense capabilities, etc.

The Cleveland initially participated in the North African landing campaign and later served mainly in the Pacific theater of operations. It was retired in 1947, removed from the Navy list in 1959, and dismantled the following year.
