Historical Background

USS Mobile Bay (CG‑53) is a Flight‑II Ticonderoga‑class guided‑missile cruiser, commissioned in 1987. Named after the Battle of Mobile Bay in the American Civil War. She took part in the Gulf War, launching Tomahawk cruise missiles against Iraqi targets. The warship carried out extensive deployments across Pacific and Indian Oceans for carrier‑group air‑defence and command missions, and was formally decommissioned by US Navy in August 2023。
