Historical Background

• The J-20 is China’s fifth-generation twin-engine heavy stealth fighter developed by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group.
• Prototype No.2011 made its maiden flight on March 1, 2014, featuring many aerodynamic improvements compared to earlier 2001 prototype.
• It revised intake geometry, vertical tail structure and cockpit canopy design, serving as a key test platform before serial production.
• Main missions include air superiority combat, long-range interception, stealth penetration and precision strike.
• This prototype greatly verified aerodynamic optimisation and avionics integration for the mass-production J-20.
