Historical Background

• The J-11B is the fully domestic upgraded variant of the J-11 family, developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation for the People's Liberation Army Air Force.
• It features homemade avionics, fire-control radar, composite materials and WS-10A Taihang turbofan engines, greatly improving performance compared to the original J-11A.
• It retains the excellent aerodynamic characteristics of the Flanker platform, with outstanding air superiority, long range and heavy weapon carrying capability.
• Main missions include air superiority combat, long-range interception, and deep penetration strike.
• J-11B entered service with PLAAF in the mid-2000s and became one of the core heavy fighters of Chinese air defence.
