    Historical Background

    • The J-10S is the two-seat trainer/combat variant of Chengdu J-10 fighter, developed for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force.
    • Its maiden flight took place in 2003. It can be used for J-10 series pilot conversion training while retaining full combat capability.
    • Powered by AL-31FN turbofan engine, it shares the same aerodynamic layout and flight control system with single-seat J-10A.
    • It can undertake air superiority combat, interception and precision ground strike missions. The modified J-10SY variant serves in the PLAAF August 1st Aerobatic Demonstration Team.
    • The J-10S greatly improves the training efficiency of J-10 pilots and can also perform operational missions in wartime.
