    Historical Background

    • The Vickers Wellington Mk.X was the last and most numerous bomber variant of the Wellington family, powered by Bristol Hercules VI / XVI radial engines with improved power output.
    • It adopted strengthened airframe structure, raising maximum take-off weight and bomb-carrying capability. Total production reached 3804 airframes.
    • Entered RAF service in late 1942, serving in Bomber Command night bombing raids over occupied Europe.
    • As four-engine heavy bombers gradually took over strategic bombing missions, many Mk.X airframes were transferred to operational training units, or converted to GR maritime patrol, anti-submarine and crew trainer versions.
    • Post-war, some modified T.Mk10 trainer variants remained in RAF service until the early 1950s.
