Historical Background

• The Antonov An-2 is a famous Soviet single-engine biplane, designed in 1947 by Antonov Design Bureau for multi-purpose missions.
• China Nanchang Aircraft Factory produced the licensed version designated Y-5, making its maiden flight in December 1957.
• This rugged aircraft can operate from short, unpaved airfields, widely used for cargo transport, paratrooper dropping, agricultural spraying, rescue and geological survey.
• Thousands of An-2/Y-5 were built worldwide; many examples remain in service for civil aviation tasks to this day.
