Historical Background

• The T-64AV Mod 1984 was an upgraded T-64A tank equipped with Kontakt-1 explosive reactive armour.
• It kept the original 125mm 2A46 smoothbore gun, 3-man crew and autoloader design of T-64A.
• Distinguished from T-64BV by retaining the optical rangefinder on turret front, without missile control box.
• It was assigned to elite Soviet tank units during the Cold War to improve protection against shaped-charge warheads.
