Historical Background

• The T-64A Mod.1981 was a mid-life upgraded variant of the Soviet T-64A main battle tank, upgraded in the early 1980s.
• It retained the original 125mm 2A46 smoothbore gun and 3-man crew with automatic loader.
• This upgrade added the Tucha-1 smoke grenade launchers and improved continuous rubber side skirts for better side protection.
• Like earlier T-64 variants, it was exclusively fielded by elite Soviet frontline units and never exported abroad during the Cold War.
