Historical Background

• The T-64A Mod 1972 was an upgraded version of the original T-64 tank, formally adopted by the Soviet army in the early 1970s.
• It was equipped with the 125mm 2A46 smoothbore gun and an automatic loader, reducing the crew to 3 members.
• This tank adopted composite armour, providing superior protection against kinetic and chemical energy rounds at that time.
• It was exclusively operated by Soviet forces during the Cold War and served as the elite frontline heavy tank for Soviet tank divisions.
