Historical Background

• The KV-1S was a Soviet improved variant of the KV-1 heavy tank, developed and mass-produced from late 1942.
• It adopted thinner armour, a compact low-profile turret and redesigned power transmission to gain higher travelling speed.
• It was the first Soviet heavy tank equipped with a dedicated commander’s cupola for all-around battlefield observation.
• The KV-1S fought extensively on the Eastern Front, used for breakthrough assaults until production ceased in mid-1943
