Historical Background

• Sd.Kfz.7/1 late version entered production starting in 1942, upgrading with 8mm armored driver cab and radiator shield to improve crew survivability against shrapnel and rifle fire
• It adopted revised gun mount design: the Flakvierling 38 could be quickly dismounted from the half-track and deployed as standalone static anti-air emplacement or fitted on Sd.Ah.52 trailer
• Armed with four 20mm Flak38 automatic cannons, capable of high rate of fire against low-altitude fighter bombers; also effective against infantry and light armored vehicles in direct fire mode
• Issued to Luftwaffe flak detachments and panzer division air defence units, widely deployed on Eastern and Western Front from 1942 to 1945
• It was one of Germany’s most important mobile anti-air vehicles for protecting armoured columns against allied tactical air strikes
