Historical Background

• The MIM-104 Patriot is a US all-weather surface-to-air missile defence system, PAC-2 variant optimized for aircraft and tactical ballistic missile interception.
• The M901 launching station carries four sealed missile canisters for rapid reload and deployment.
• The AN/MPQ-53 phased array radar serves as the core sensor, responsible for target detection, tracking and missile guidance.
• The whole system can be rapidly transported and deployed to form mobile air defence barriers.
• Entered US Army service in the 1980s and gained wide fame during Gulf War ballistic missile interception operations.
• Widely exported to many allied nations and still plays an important role in modern air defense missions.
