    The Oshkosh M-ATV was developed as a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle to compete in the U.S. Army’s M-ATV program. The abbreviation stands for All-Terrain Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle. It was engineered at the company’s Wisconsin division.

    It features improved protection over earlier MRAP platforms with a heavier curb weight while retaining outstanding mobility. Its primary mission is to replace the Army’s M1114 HMMWV (Humvee) all-terrain vehicles.
    The M-ATV utilises the TAK-4 independent suspension system, refined from MTVR tactical trucks, paired with an armoured hull design similar to the JLTV. It adopts a V-shaped underbody that effectively shields occupants during mine and IED blasts. The tyres are fitted with a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS). If two tyres lose pressure while driving, the M-ATV can still travel a minimum of 30 miles at 30 mph.
    The engine can sustain operation for at least one kilometre after being struck by 7.62mm rounds, provided its oil and cooling systems remain intact. A Stat-X engine fire suppression system delivers an extra layer of onboard protection.
