Historical Background

• The J-15 "Flying Shark" is China’s first carrier-borne heavy fighter developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation for the People’s Liberation Army Navy.
• It adopts domestic avionics, fire-control radar and WS-10H engines, inheriting the excellent aerodynamic layout of the Flanker family.
• Equipped with folding wings, reinforced landing gear and carrier arresting hook to adapt to aircraft carrier take-off and landing.
• Main missions include fleet air defence, air superiority combat, anti-ship strike and long-range interception.
• J-15 completed its maiden flight in 2009 and officially entered service with PLAN carrier air wing, serving as the core combat aircraft for China’s aircraft carriers.
