    Historical Background

    • Su-30MKK (NATO reporting name Flanker-G) was developed by Sukhoi Design Bureau and manufactured by KnAAPO, customised for China's requirement for long-range heavy strike fighter.
    • MKK abbreviation stands for “Modernizirovannyi Kommercheskiy Kitayski”, meaning modernised commercial version for China. The maiden flight was in 1999, and deliveries started in 2000.
    • Powered by twin AL-31F turbofan engines, it retains superb air superiority performance while possessing powerful long-range precision ground strike capability, similar in role to the American F-15E.
    • It can carry a wide range of modern air-to-air missiles and precision guided munitions, undertaking air superiority, long-range interception and deep penetration strike missions.
    • Su-30MKK greatly boosted the long-range combat capability of PLAAF, and its design also laid foundation for naval Su-30MK2 variant.
