    Historical Background

    • The Sd.Kfz.251/22 was a tank destroyer variant based on Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.D half-track chassis.
    • It entered service in late 1944, armed with 7.5 cm Pak 40 anti-tank gun to counter Allied armour.
    • The vehicle retained the Maybach HL42 six-cylinder engine of the base Sd.Kfz.251D.
    • The open fighting compartment allowed crew to operate the anti-tank gun, with limited armour protection.
    • These vehicles were assigned to infantry units, used on Eastern and Western Fronts for mobile anti-tank defence.
    • It was an emergency conversion to provide infantry with mobile anti-armour firepower in the late WWII period.
