    Historical Background

    The M1A2 SEP (System Enhancement Package) is a modern upgraded variant of the M1 Abrams main battle tank serving with the United States Army. It retains the powerful 120mm M256 smoothbore gun and heavy composite armour, while receiving upgraded digital battlefield management systems, improved thermal sights and enhanced power systems. The SEP upgrade greatly improved networked combat capability and target acquisition performance. This tank has participated in overseas deployments and combat missions, and remains the primary main battle tank of the US armoured forces.
