Historical Background

The M3A2 half-track was the final improved variant of the American M3 half-track series, entering mass production in late 1943. It upgraded the open-top turret with reinforced armor plating and could carry up to 12 fully equipped infantry troops. Powered by a 143 hp inline-six gasoline engine, it could reach a maximum road speed of 72 km/h. The half-track design combined front road wheels and rear tracks, delivering great mobility over mud, snow and rough terrain.

Widely used by US armored infantry divisions across Europe and Pacific battlefields in WWII, it served as the core armored personnel carrier for troop transport, fire support and cargo hauling. Many of these vehicles were supplied to allied nations, and some countries kept using M3A2 half-tracks until the 1970s.
