    Historical Background

    The M113 is a widely used American armored personnel carrier, entering service in the early 1960s and seeing massive combat in the Vietnam War. The M113A1 upgraded the engine and transmission. The ACAV, Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle, was a field-modified assault version fitted with protective gun shields and extra machine guns, used for patrol, escort and direct fire missions in jungle combat.
