History:

The British Corsair Mk.II was an American made F4U-1A Corsair carrier based fighter aircraft acquired by the Royal Navy Air Force (FAA) through the Lend Lease Act during World War II. It was one of the main fighter jets of the British Navy's Pacific theater.

Deployment: Since 1944, the British pirate Mk.II has been mainly deployed in the Indo Pacific theater, with aircraft carriers such as HMS Victorious assigned.

First Battle: In April 1944, participated in the air raid on oil facilities in Sumatra (Operation Chicken Cage), carrying out escort and ground attacks.

Pacific Theater: During the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, the British Pacific Fleet's (BPF) pirate Mk.II undertook air superiority, ground/ship strike, and anti submarine missions to counter Japanese Zero, Rafale, and other fighter jets.

Ace Pilot: Canadian pilot Donald J. Sheppard (1836 Squadron) piloted the Pirate Mk.II and achieved 5 crashes, becoming the only pirate ace in the British fleet aviation.

After the war, some pirate Mk.II remained in service until 1947, and most were dismantled or destroyed after the war.
