Historical Background

The Grumman EA‑6B Prowler is a four‑seat, carrier‑borne tactical electronic‑warfare aircraft derived from the A‑6 Intruder airframe.

Entered US Navy service in 1971, operated by Navy and Marine Corps squadrons.

Primary duties include radar jamming, signal suppression and SEAD missions using AGM‑88 HARM missiles.

Participated in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Balkan conflicts and many other overseas operations.

Gradually phased out and replaced by EA‑18G Growler; final USMC retirement completed in 2019.
