    Type IX‑C was an improved variant based on Type IX‑B U‑boat. Extra 43‑ton fuel storage raised its range to 13400 nautical miles at 10 knots. It could carry torpedoes or mines for long‑distance Atlantic patrol. Some boats were not fitted for mine‑laying missions. It was one of the main long‑range attack submarines of German Navy in WWII.
