    History

    The subsonic carrier-based A-7K Corsair II, manufactured by LTV Aerospace, was developed to replace the U.S. Navy’s A-4 Skyhawk and entered service during the Vietnam War. The U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard also adopted the A-7 as a replacement for the A-1 Skyraider, F-100 Super Sabre and F-105 Thunderchief.
    Export deliveries were made to Greece in the 1970s, followed by Portugal and Thailand in the late 1980s. Built on the outstanding airframe design of the A-7, Vought also developed the iconic supersonic F-8 Crusader fighter jet. The A-7 holds the distinction of being the world’s first combat aircraft fitted with a head-up display (HUD), inertial navigation system and turbofan engine.
    The A-7K is a two-seat trainer variant built exclusively for the Air National Guard, with a total production run of 30 airframes.
