Historical Background

The Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.E was an important early‑war medium tank of the German Wehrmacht, produced from late 1939 until mid‑1941. It featured thicker frontal hull and turret armour compared with previous variants, while retaining the short‑barrelled 75 cm KwK 37 main gun originally designed for infantry fire‑support missions.

This tank saw extensive combat during the invasion of France, the Balkans and the initial phase of Operation Barbarossa on the Eastern Front. As anti‑tank threats grew on the Russian battlefield, its short gun gradually lost effectiveness against modern Soviet armour, and it was gradually shifted toward secondary roles such as security and counter‑insurgency duties in later stages of the war.
