    Historical Background

    Austrått Fort is a German coastal fortress built in Norway during WWII, finished in 1942 to defend Trondheim fjord. Its main weapon was the triple 28cm SK C/34 naval turret "Caesar", originally taken from the damaged battleship Gneisenau. The 800-ton turret could fire 280mm shells up to 38km to intercept enemy warships. The fort survived the war and is preserved as a museum today.
