    The A‑12 Avenger II was a stealth attack aircraft co‑developed by McDonnell Douglas and General Dynamics.
    It was the U.S. Navy’s first purpose‑built stealth carrier‑borne strike aircraft, designed to replace the aging A‑6 Intruder.
    The US Air Force also planned to adopt it to replace the F‑111F‑1 Aardvark.
    Suffering from budget overruns, excessive weight and schedule delays, the whole program was cancelled by US Secretary of Defense Cheney on January 7, 1991.
