Historical Background

The F‑100D Super Sabre was the most‑produced variant of the world’s first operational supersonic jet fighter. Developed from earlier F‑100C, it received improved avionics, autopilot and strengthened airframe, optimized for fighter‑bomber duties. It served widely with US Air Force, flew countless close‑air‑support strike missions over Vietnam. Besides conventional ordnance, it was also capable of delivering tactical nuclear weapons. Large numbers were supplied to NATO allied air‑forces and remained in service well into the 1970s.
