RYE 5160 1/35 Soviet JS-2 Tank Model Kit Unboxing Review
Share
This Soviet JS-2 Tank Model kit from Rye Field Model is one of this year’s major new releases, and it’s also a subject I personally really like.
The kit features brand-new tooling, working suspension and movable tracks. Photo-etched parts and a 3D-printed muzzle brake are included in the box.

The lower hull is moulded as a single piece with abundant fine details on the underside.

The front and rear sections of the upper hull are produced as separate mouldings, and the front hull features cast texture detail.

The suspension and road wheels feature sharply rendered bolt details, though the road wheels lack cast texture.

The tracks of JS-2 Tank Model are interlocking movable tracks using a pin connection design, with no obvious ejector pin marks on either side.

The details of the remaining hull components of JS-2 Tank Model, the rear fuel tanks utilise the conventional two-part assembly method.

The main turret is one-piece moulded with cast texture on the sides. The welds are the fish-scale type typical of German tanks.

The gun barrel of JS-2 Tank Model is a standard two-piece moulding that needs seam work. There is no plastic muzzle brake; a 3D printed one is included, and you can see circular layer lines at the muzzle.
