MENG 72-016 1/72 M1A2 SEP V2 Abrams Tank Model Kit Unboxing Review
Share
Summary: The MENG 72-016 Abrams Tank Model Kit still adopts a modular quick-assembly design, which reduces assembly complexity while reproducing details to the fullest. It stands out as one of the best-equipped offerings within Meng’s own 1/72 lineup.

Today we’re reviewing Meng Model’s 1/72 M1A2 SEP V2 Main Battle Tank. Compared with Meng’s earlier kit 72-003 M1A2, the biggest difference is that this version features the Trophy Active Protection System, alongside revised side skirt add-on armor. Let’s take a look at the parts layout of this kit.
The box art retains Meng’s understated sketch style, with decal options and paint schemes printed on the rear panel.

In terms of part count, this kit boasts one of the highest part quantities among Meng’s 1/72 offerings. It includes 8 sprues in total, one of which holds clear parts, plus one decal sheet.

Sprue A mainly features the hull base, made with split molding.

Suspension swing arms are molded straight onto the base. The engine vent details look great with crisp edges.

Sprue E holds the upper hull and turret, which come with great surface details.

The main gun is single-piece molded, with the muzzle supplied as a separate part for assembly. The machine gun is also molded as a single piece; its gate is positioned at the muzzle. The gate placement remains thoughtfully designed as always.

Sprue F holds turret parts. The one-piece M2 heavy machine gun needs muzzle drilling later.

Sprue H is newly tooled, including the Trophy APS and side skirts.

Brief Review: This kit is Meng’s M1A2 SEP V2 equipped with the Trophy Active Protection System, developed based on the existing M1A2 Main Battle Tank kit (72-003). Two newly tooled sprues, Sprue H and Sprue J, have been added.
The kit retains the modular quick-assembly design, lowering assembly difficulty while reproducing details to the greatest extent. Clear parts for the ballistic viewing windows of the machine gunner are also included.
It can be regarded as one of the most well-equipped kits in Meng’s 1/72 range, and it still carries an affordable price tag.
Work-in-progress build preview of the basic assembly is coming soon — stay tuned.
